Music at St Paul’s
There are two choirs at St Paul’s. The first is a small but loyal group who sing at the 10.00am Service each Sunday. The hymns are usually chosen from The Australian Hymnbook. The Psalm is sung to Anglican Chant. The settings of the Eucharist we use are those by William Mathias and Michael Dudman.
The second choir is St Paul’s Occasional Choir. This Choir is made up of people who enjoy singing music from the rich “cathedral” tradition of the Anglican Church but who do not want the on-going, weekly commitment of the regular Choir.
St Paul’s Occasional Choir
The Occasional Choir sings two or three times a year. The annual highlight is always the Christmas Carol Service. This is a traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols and is held on the Sunday evening before Christmas. Apart from a wide range of carols, works performed by the Occasional Choir include sections of Handel’s Messiah, Stanford’s Te Deum in C, O Where Shall Wisdom be Found by William Boyce, Stainer’s Crucifixion, settings of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Stanford, Walmisley, Brewer and Stainer, Sumsion's They that Go Down to the Sea in Ships and Haydn's Insanae et Vanae Curae.
The organ at St Paul’s is a two manual and pedal pipe organ built by Bellsham Organs in 1977.
